Community Employment Services

In August of 2013 Independence became CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited. With this accreditation, we now provide services through the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) as well as the Employment First program.  We offer customized community employment supports in the following areas.
  • Job Development - This service component provides job search assistance both in person and via the internet, plus assistance with completion of applications, assessments, resume development, interviewing, and post interview follow up.
  • Job Coaching – On the job coaching to help individuals learn how to do their job.  Job coaching is phased out as individuals gain job knowledge and confidence.
  • Retention Services - For 90 days after conclusion of coaching services, the Job Developer maintains contact with the employee and employer to provide additional supports as needed.
  • Community Based Assessments – A paid job trial to assess skills and find out if a job is a good fit.  Community based assessments are generally set up for 20-30 hours and sometimes result in a job offer.
  • Employment skills training – Resume and interviewing assistance and training.
  • Career Exploration – An unpaid opportunity to observe different careers through job shadowing.  Career exploration generally lasts 5 to 10 hours.

Our team of Job Developers and Job Coaches are extremely passionate about supporting people with their employment needs. By customizing supports as well as developing strong relationships with local businesses, Independence had many successful placements.
